Navigate the challenges of parenting with honest conversations, empowering stories, and expert advice.
Welcome to âWoman Made Wellâ with Candice Wood, a podcast that empowers women through the highs and lows of pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood. If youâve ever felt overwhelmed or isolated, this is your supportive space.

Hi, I'm Dr. Candice Wood.
I am a board-certified OB/GYN with added certification in perinatal mood disorders. I have loved treating women's health for 18 years. My journey has led me to focus the 2nd half of my career on women's mental health, an area that I feel is tragically undertreated.
My goal for this podcast is to create a space that is as safe as my clinic couch - a place to feel understood, motivated, and prepared to meet the challenges and find the beauty of parenthood. You don't have to lose yourself to be a good mother - in fact, finding yourself in motherhood will take you to depths of joy you never imagined. Â
Will you let me show you how?Â

Episode 15: "Why Is Breastfeeding So Stressful? (Part 2)"
Today, weâre continuing our empowering conversation with my dear friend and lactation consultant, Aida Gonzalez, as we dive even deeper into the breastfeeding journey. In Part 2, weâre covering everything from how to build and maintain your milk supply to overcoming common breastfeeding challenges, all with compassion, flexibility, and the reminder that your worth as a mom is never measured in ounces.
Aida shares expert advice on how to set yourself up for long-term breastfeeding success, starting from those very first hours after birth. Weâll talk about why frequent milk removal and responsive feeding are the key drivers of supply and how your babyâs natural feeding cues are designed to communicate exactly what they need. Youâll also hear us break down popular lactogenic foods, hydration tips, and why taking care of your own nutrition is so important in the postpartum period, not just for milk production, but for your own physical and emotional recovery.
We also get real about the challenges many moms face, including mastitis, thrush, and how to spot the early warning signs before they become bigger problems. Youâll learn why gentle massage, ice, and proper follow-up can prevent complications, and how knowing when to ask for help can make all the difference. Most importantly, we open up about the emotional toll breastfeeding can take when things donât go according to plan â and why giving yourself permission to pivot, whether that means supplementing or weaning entirely, is sometimes the bravest and healthiest choice you can make for both you and your baby.
If youâre in the thick of breastfeeding, preparing to return to work, or navigating the mental load of trying to âdo it all,â this episode is here to encourage you. You are not alone, and your journey, no matter how it unfolds, is enough. If this episode encourages you, please share it with another mom who might need to hear these words today. Donât forget to leave a rating and review to help us grow this community of support. And connect with me on social media! Iâd love to hear your story and walk alongside you on this beautiful, messy, and meaningful journey of motherhood.
